Hampton Court House Wedding Photographs

I always love returning to shoot wedding photography at Hampton Court House.  This stunning Georgian Mansion is set within nine acres of 18th-century gardens including the famous listed shell grotto.  A hidden gem of a wedding venue that sits opposite the world-renowned Hampton Court Palace.

All Surrey wedding photographers love Hampton Court House as its architectural features, utterly glamorous interiors, beautiful gardens and views of the royal park give us endless opportunities for beautiful wedding photos.

Hampton Court House was built in 1757 by the 2nd Earl of Halifax and was intended as an extravagant gift for his mistress, Anna Maria Donaldson (I can’t tell you how many of these great houses were built for mistresses!)  Though, in a time when people rarely married for love, it’s hardly surprising.  Designed by the renowned architect of the time Thomas Wright it has lots of distinctive features like the listed shell grotto and the heart-shaped lake.

Experienced Hampton Court House wedding photographer

Today, Hampton Court House is a school in term time but transforms itself during the holidays as a beautiful wedding venue that offers great flexibility for weddings.  Whether you’re having an intimate elopement, a small or medium size wedding, or a grand lavish affair.

Licensed to hold civil ceremonies for up to 150 people the grounds can accommodate large marquees for over 500 people making Hampton Court House the perfect venue for large and Asian weddings.

Surrounded on all sides by royal parkland, Hampton Court House offers exclusive use for their weddings so that when you are there it really feels like your house for the day.  And the fact you the house is set in nine acres of beautiful gardens, and then surrounded by royal parks beyond, you will feel miles away from city life even though you are still within the greater London area.

Once described as ‘an elegant and recherché mansion, suitable for a wealthy merchant Prince’ the house today boasts a stunning main hall, a conservatory, a theatre, a dining room as well of lots of exquisitely decorated private rooms all with antique furniture and available for you to explore at your leisure.

When I shoot wedding photography at Hampton Court House, I love capturing images of my couples in the grand and charming entrance hall.  Or on the ornate and majestic staircase.

Beautiful Hampton Court House wedding photography

The Grand Hall is the perfect space for a romantic wedding ceremony.  With a capacity for up to 150 guests, it has beautiful marble fireplaces with matching chandeliers.  Drinks and canapes receptions can take place in the beautiful gardens.  And the Victorian picture gallery, with its 10m high ceilings, is an awe-inspiring room for a wedding breakfast for up to 150 guests along with your Wedding Photography at Hampton Court House

Connected to the dining hall is the large Victorian conservatory that leads out onto the stunning patio garden.  All three areas connect to create the perfect space for an evening reception, on summer evenings you can throw open the doors allowing your guests to blend indoor and outdoor spaces for a lovely summer garden party vibe.

The dining room can seat up to 150 guests and the conservatory a further 80.  For elopements and intimate weddings, you can also hire the enchanting Shell Grotto for 2 – 10 people.

Another reason why I love shooting wedding photography at Hampton Court House is because of the beautiful architecture outside, elegant interiors inside, and utterly beautiful gardens surrounding the house, it is a wedding venue that the weather can’t spoil.  Regardless of what time of day, year, or whatever the weather throws at us.  Weddings at Hampton Court House are always stunning.

Hampton Court House offers in-house catering with its gourmet menu and catering service.  Offering everything from intimate dinners to large lavish parties.  Their chefs work with couples to create the perfect wedding menu using the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients.  There is no charge for corkage allowing you to bring your own drinks.  I can’t tell you how rare this is for a wedding venue of this caliber.

The wedding team at Hampton Court House also gives you the opportunity to choose from a range of caterers from their preferred list of suppliers.  This level of choice gives you so much freedom to choose food that suits your taste, the style of your wedding, and your budget.

Storytelling wedding photography at Hampton Court House

When I shoot wedding photography at Hampton Court House, I always take my couples on a mini photo shoot around the unique gardens, which regardless of the time of day or year, are always a delight to the senses.  Time seems to stop as we take in palm trees rustling in the breeze, rabbits lazing in the sun and swans gracefully gliding across the heart-shaped lake. And we always get a few images in the famous shell grotto.

My couples always say that these few minutes walk around the garden are their favorite part of their wedding day as they slow down a little and be present at the moment.  These few precious minutes always produce romantic informal portrait images that my couples are always thrilled with when they see their Wedding Photography at Hampton Court House.

The wedding team at Hampton Court House takes a really friendly approach and a flexible attitude to wedding planning.  Allowing couples to really stamp their wishes and personalities onto their wedding days.  So, if you want your wedding done your way in a simply stunning wedding venue.  Then a wedding at Hampton Court House could be perfect for you.

Hampton Court House Wedding Photographs with Lyndsey Carlos Clarke

“Hi Mark, guess what I’m getting married, I’ve been racking my brain as we know so many fashion and art photographers, and then Gilan the owner of The Little Black Art Gallery in Chelsea suggested you as our Hampton Court Wedding Photographer and then it came flooding back how much Bob had always waxed lyrical about your beautiful black and white documentary wedding photos. So I wondered if you would be available to please photograph my and Andy’s big day at Hampton Court House?

The Wedding of my dreams

I, of course, said I’d be delighted and then she added, “but I have a few rules and want to be sure you’re happy with them.”

“Go on”, I said. “Well Mark firstly I don’t want to talk to you on the day, I just want to trust you to deliver, secondly definitely no groups, oh well maybe just one of Andy’s Mum and Dad with us and my daughter Scarlett and then just one picture of the two of us looking at each other. Oh and the last request, I don’t want to ever see any of my wedding photographs in color. Are you still ok with that?” A big smile came across my face and I replied “Lyndsey, that is my perfect wedding to photograph !”

The Wedding Day

On the wedding day and I met Lyndsey the bride at The Church along with all their cool wedding guests and knew straight away this was going to be a very Rock n Roll cool unforgettable event at Hampton Court House.

It really was a dream to photograph as Hampton court is one of those glamorous and romantic wedding venues with the bride in her magnificent white wedding dress wandering around the magical 18th century gardens whilst their band played in The Grand Hall with magnificent matching marble fireplaces and chandeliers their favorite rock n roll songs and their wedding guests mingled sipping champagne and nibbling canapes whilst being overlooked by human statues as I wandered around photographing natural moments with my camera.

After the drinks reception, they all moved to The Victorian Picture Gallery, a magnificent room for their wedding breakfast with its amazing 10m high ceilings leading out to an enchanting conservatory and the stunning patio garden where after cutting their wedding cake they took to the dance floor and their first dance together as husband and wife the sounds of Eric Clapton singing You look wonderful tonight.

The Bride and Groom made the perfect getaway by private helicopter as their wedding guests waved them goodbye on the short journey to Cliveden House for their wedding night and a short honeymoon.

After the Wedding at Hampton Court House

All the wedding photographs were delivered as per Lyndsey’s request in Black and White along with a beautiful Wedding Album telling the story of their wedding day and then I sat and waited with bated breath hoping the wedding photos and bridal album would meet her high expectations, and to my delight, I received a call from the bride along with a beautiful testimonial, with an invite to The Little Black Gallery to choose a couple of Bob Carlos Clarke’s original images for my own wall

Testimonial from the bride Lyndsey Carlos Clarke

“Having spent over 35 years in the photographic world, as a model, as a wife to the late great photographer Bob Carlos Clarke and more recently the co-owner of The Little Black Gallery in Chelsea, I was suddenly faced with finding a photographer for my own wedding.

Planning a wedding is complicated and fraught with endless decisions. The wedding photographer has a difficult role. He is not family, or even friends but has to mingle with family on a very special private day and take amazing photographs which have to stand the test of time.

I had met Mark Seymour on a couple of occasions when he worked on projects with my late husband, Bob always said that Mark was the best wedding photographer in the business, and he was right. Weddings are complex to photograph, and getting the right balance is difficult, you have to trust the photographer and you must give them the freedom to capture moments in time and memories you are making that can never be repeated.

Whatever plans you have for your special wedding day, your dress, the church, the reception, or your guests, if you don’t get it photographed properly you will always have regrets forever and you can never relive them.

For me, Mark was fantastic with his camera. I gave him a very open brief, only a few group shots of family, and then I just set him free. The proof is in the wedding pictures, they are just amazing and every single person that has seen them says that they can feel and relive the wedding day. That for me fulfills the brief. Anyone who is fortunate to get Mark Seymour as their wedding photographer for their wedding has made the right decision.”
