Philippa and Andy

This was a wedding I have really been looking forward to photographing! Philippa first met her husband Andy, at Northumbria  University in Newcastle, where they were both studying for a performing arts degree.

Philippa now runs her own very successful wedding make up business, which is how we first met. She and I have worked on many London weddings so it was a great surprise and honour, as she works with many bridal photographers, that she chose me to record her wedding day.

With the big day set for bank holiday Monday we met several weeks prior to talk through the wedding day and take their pre wedding photographs in the beautiful grounds of Cliveden House, in Buckinghamshire. The two of them had a natural ease with each other in front of the camera.

For her wedding, Philippa had chosen a stunning fifties style wedding dress by Stephanie Allin and matched the outfit with shoes from Hassall, and accessories of cultured pearls handed down as family heirlooms.

Andy had left a romantic note downstairs for his bride to be with a wedding day gift of one of Philippa’s favourite designer handbags…. A bag in the shapes of a fabulous pair of bright red lips, from the renowned Lulu Guinness.

The light was perfect, streaming in through the windows into her bedroom, which enabled me to capture some great moments as Philippa managed her own make up with Dayna Gray assisting with the hair.

We then all made our way to the Mandarin Oriental on Hyde Park where her groom Andy awaited along with 160 guests to see them both take their marriage vows under the chuppah.

Before the reception we took the bride and groom the short walk to the edge of Hyde Park, where we spent some time capturing just the two of them enjoying their first moments as a married couple and creating some beautiful bridal photographs, as well as some more informal fun pictures.

We then returned to join their guests in the elegant Grand Ballroom for the evening’s entertainment which was provided by the brilliant band Creation.

With food catered by Carole Sobell, the guests were treated to a three course meal of teriyaki salmon as a starter, followed by the most amazing roast beef with yorkshire puddings. The sweet was an assiette of deserts, and the meal completed by coffee and petit fours.

Later in the evening they cut their Batya wedding cake and enjoyed their first dance to Nora Jones singing ‘Come away with me’, before dancing the night away with their family and friends. This is always one of my favorite parts of a wedding, as it enables me to take true reportage wedding photographs of all the special moments that occur.

It was a privilege to photograph this very special London wedding for a very lovely couple – mazel tov Phillipa and Andy.
