Manfrotto Spectra Led Lights

Manfrotto Spectra 900FT

Light up your imagination with the Spectra 900FT

Well I’ve had the Manfrotto Spectra 900FT for a little over a month now and with 4 weddings under my belt using this little beauty its time to put pen to paper.

The Spectra 900Ft is one of a series of four LED lights from Manfrotto each offering a slightly different specification dependent upon the photographers requirements whether it be size, power, angle of beam or colour  balanceable .

The 900FT With its slim and elegant design is the optimum choice if you want an LED light with both great wider angle coverage and the option to match the colour temperature to the ambient light whilst you are shooting.

The 900Ft is powered by 6 AA batteries, I used the long lasting Duracell  2400mAH batteries and found that even after a couple of hours use the unit was still going strong..

The main benefit of the 900FT for me as a wedding photographer is the ability to be able to not use flash on the dance floor , colour balance the image and just take of the colour cast of the couples face but maintain the beautiful ambient light they have set for their function.

Give life to your images by adding a catch-light into the subject’s eyes

Being a Jewish wedding photographer I’ve found it great for slower first dances but also indispensable for the high tempo dancing that takes place at many of the Jewish and Greek weddings that I photograph it can be either used on camera with the high quality attachment that comes provided as part of the kit or as I prefer off camera on a short boom arm to give me more dynamic lighting.

The  Spectra gives you the possibility to experiment with new lighting solutions. And you can  give life to your images by adding a catch-light into the subject’s eyes and by filling-in undesired shadows. Continuous lighting allows you to see real-time what you will get at the end as a result.

The continuous lighting allows me to see in real-time what I’m capturing in real time

This light in conjunction  with the Nikon D4s  is a winning combination  as it lets me freeze the action typically using ISO values of around 10,000, the LED light lets me freeze the action with a shutter speed of 250 sec at F4 using the Nikon 16-35mm Zoom lens to tell and capture the decisive moment of the story within the frame.

The continuous lighting allows me to see in real-time what I’m capturing in real time

Here are a few examples of both Greek and Jewish dancing images captured with this combination.
