Kim and Alex celebrate their Savoy Wedding
Kim and Alex met over seven years ago when they were both studying at Birmingham University. Then eighteen months ago, Alex proposed to Kim at the top of Primrose Hill, presenting his beautiful fiancé with a princess cut square diamond ring.
As a London wedding photographer I always get excited about a wedding at The Savoy, it is such a stunning venue in the heart of London, close to Covent Garden and the West End, and over-looking the River Thames. The Savoy has attracted celebrities, high society even Royalty in its’ history, and there are some amazing photographs hanging on the walls that are worth the visit to the American bar whilst also enjoying a cocktail. It is one of the grandest and most romantic wedding venues in London, a five star glamorous luxury hotel with interiors combining Edwardian and Art Deco. There is even a Boodles exclusive boutique, the quintessentially British fine jewellers.
Kim sat naturally as I photographed her getting ready having her hair and makeup professionally applied by Ayelet Garson before slipping into a stunning Pronovias dress with every girl’s dream, shoes by Jimmy Choo. Kim had a simple lace cover-up to add to her beautiful outfit for the ceremony. Kim carried a gorgeous rose bouquet in cream and blush pinks. The bouquet and all the beautiful floral arrangements for the wedding were supplied by Melissa Riva flowers.
Kim was accompanied by her five bridesmaids, including her sister, all wearing elegant long dresses in dusky pink.
What made this wedding really unique was the bridal portraits. Instead of giving some time after the ceremony the couple decided to have their pictures done together first so we took Kim outside and then presented Alex with his beautiful bride, I love the expression on their face as they first see each other. We took advantage of the stunningly decorated interiors of the Savoy as well as taking time for photographs outside taking advantage of the natural sun light.
Kim and Alex had a traditional Hoopa adorned with more roses in blush and cream and cascading ivy. The aisle was lit by candles in large lanterns.
The table name settings were arranged to form a portraits of the couple and surrounded by petals, such a stunning effect, one I had to capture before the guests took their names.
The reception was hosted in the magnificent Savoy Ballroom, and the 24 tables was dressed with more stunning flowers on the tables in tall glass vases and then smaller bud vases and candles in crystal holders, with a beautiful scattering of blush and cream petals. The room smelt heavenly with the scent of the roses. The couple and their top table decided on a small intimate circular table at the centre of their guests which I thought made a lovely change to the use arrangement.
Kim and Alex entered the room to cheers and applause, under an archway created by their guests and a shower of confetti, getting ahead and down low was key to capturing this shot.
The meals was a delicious three courses with duck as the main, and the guests enjoyed the perfect evening with some emotional speeches and of course lots of fantastic dancing.
The couple and their guests danced the night away to the truly impressive sounds of the Gilev Show Band, it was non-stop with the traditional parachute and parasol dances during the evening, and wow what pictures, I’m sure Kim and Alex will be choosing lots of these for their wedding album.
The couple are off for an incredible two week honeymoon in the Maldives, sun, sea and bliss before they come home to relive their wedding day through their beautiful wedding images.
