Although I’m a destination wedding photographer I’m also recommended by many of the UK’s most prestigious hotels, but the opportunity to travel as a destination wedding photographer to Thailand was always going to be a very special occasion. This particular wedding was even more special as the groom has been one of my son’s best friends since they were at school together , so I felt very humbled to have James ask me to be their destination wedding photographer , and fly out to Phuket, to document their wedding day.
Planning a Destination Wedding
As a destination wedding photographer Thailand (or whichever location you chose), its always a must to arrive a day or two early, not just to acclimatise yourself with the wedding venue but to spend some time exploring the wedding hotel and its grounds for all the best locations to take their wedding photos, but also to watch how the light interacts with the setting, and to know what time he sun sets and how quick the light fades to darkness.

James & Victoria’s Destination Wedding
James and Victoria planned their destination wedding at a stunning villa complex in Phuket, Thailand with the help of ‘Take us to Thailand’, they arrived the week before the wedding ceremony staying in a villa in the stunning Trisara complex complete with infinity pool and beautiful views. Their close family all shared villas dotted around the Trisara complex whilst their other forty wedding guests stayed in a nearby hotel on the island.
The bride Victoria and her girl friends along with the James the groom along with his best mates each took it in turns to have their nights out on the town to celebrate their hen and stag parties, and according to the stories as told during the wedding speeches, they had an outrageous time remembering what happens in Thailand stays in Thailand!
The Wedding Day
Victoria had an elegant bridal gown with a sequin floral design and beautiful deep back with beautiful button detailing, by Maggie Sottero, complimented with silver wedding shoes embossed with a special marriage message on the soles, by Charlotte Mills.

Getting ready bride and groom photography
I photographed the girls having their hair and make-up done on the morning of the wedding by Lisa Allen and her team, whilst the boys relaxed by the pool with a few beers, always saying how important it is to feel relaxed on your big wedding day.
James the groom looked very cool, with a crisp white short sleeved shirt, pink braces and matching bow tie, accessorised with deep tan leather belt and shoes. The groomsmen dressed the same but with mint green braces and tie and were perfectly complemented by the beautiful bridesmaids in gowns of dusky pink and mint. The couple also had their boys as page boys in mini groomsmen outfits, matching pink of James and flower girls with pink and mint tutus, so cute! Victoria’s wedding bouquet was a mix of white and pink peony blooms and the bridesmaids carried tiny white sprays of orchids.

Outdoor destination wedding ceremony
The couple were married outside, there were beautiful displays of white orchids on either side of the aisle, the aisle itself was scattered with white petals and the couple were married under an archway of flowers with the sea stretching out behind them. The couple had some group shots of the two of them with the bridesmaids and groomsmen and of course the mums and dads by the pool. We took advantage of the exotic beach and setting sun for some totally stunning bridal portraits of James and Victoria.

After the ceremony the couple joined their guests for a cocktail reception on the beach lit by strings of fairy lights, before an amazing Thai wedding banquet. Between courses there were some brilliant speeches, one of the great things about a smaller intimate wedding, tends to mean there is a real closeness and shared history between everyone, so there were lots of stories about the couple and many laughs.
The evening started with fireworks and then the couple took the floor for their first dance to Maria Carey. Lark Music band provided the music for the ceremony and drinks reception and then the entertainment was provided by Ben Jenkins for the rest of the evening.
