As I Berkshire wedding photographer, Cliveden is one of my favourite Berkshire wedding venues. I am proud to have a long association with the events team and as one of their recommended suppliers I have photographed many weddings as well as special events for the House, including Chris Evans BBC Radio 2 event for Children in Need.

Set in the heart of the Berkshire countryside, amongst 376 acres of National Trust parklands, overlooking the River Thames, the combination of breath-taking grounds and lavish interiors make Cliveden a dream wedding venue. The National Trust have supported the owners in refurbishing the House and grounds to ensure its outstanding heritage lasts into the future and ensures that Cliveden remains one of the most prestigious wedding venues in the UK.

Cliveden offers outstanding service, hospitality and food, in an elegant country house hotel, which for over three hundred years has excelled at entertaining. The attentive team have many wedding day options within the House for any number or size of ceremony or reception.

If privacy is important to you on your wedding day, you may wish to hire the house exclusively; many of my clients have taken this option. Exclusive use of Cliveden includes all the facilities of the mansion, making it your own stately home for the sole enjoyment of you and your guests.

All guests are treated royally at Cliveden. Attention to detail and personalised service are hallmarks of this fairy tale wedding venue. Having photographed many weddings at this beautiful Berkshire wedding venue, I have seen just how seriously the team treat every wedding no matter the size. It is important that every detail is personal to make your wedding day a truly memorable occasion.

Interesting facts about Cliveden’s history:

  • The main mansion was destroyed by a fire in 1975, sadly only the wings remained.
  • Sir George Warrender William was commissioned in 1824 to rebuild the main mansion.
  • George Canning who was a Prime Minister spent time contemplating under the oak tree in the grounds. The tree was later named Canning’s Oak after him.
  • During 1849 The Duke and Duchess of Sutherland moved into Cliveden House. Unbelievably during this year the House was once again to suffer another devastating fire, again destroying the main house. Smoke was seen from Windsor Castle with fire engines coming from Windsor to help with the fire. The mansion was to be rebuilt again; this time by Charles Barry who discovered the fire was caused by poor workmanship during the last rebuild.
  • In 1897 the Fountain of Love was carved from marble and volcanic rock by Thomas Waldo Story.
  • During 1915 Winston Churchill visited. The King and Queen also visited in late 1915.
  • In 1932 President Roosevelt visited Cliveden. Many famous people visited Cliveden in the post war years including Charlie Chaplin and George-Bernard Shaw.
  • During 1965 the Beatles filmed part of ‘Help’ the movie at the house and notoriously held races on the Parterre between themselves and the film crew during their downtime.
  • In 2015 a book was published recalling the infamous love affairs at Cliveden.
